FAQ

Syllabus questions, answered

No. Para 9 of the 2025 (32nd batch) notification lists only the tests with their questions, marks, timing, medium and minimum marks. LIC adds a few hints: prelims English has special emphasis on grammar, vocabulary and comprehension; the mains descriptive paper tests communication skills through emails, reports, situation analysis and précis writing; and the Phase II handout describes what the GK test covers. The topic lists on this page are commonly tested areas.
Three — Reasoning Ability (35 questions, 35 marks), Quantitative Aptitude (35 questions, 35 marks) and English Language (30 questions, 30 marks, qualifying only). Each is timed separately at 20 minutes, for one hour in all. Ranking is on the 70 marks of Reasoning and Quant, and you must clear the minimum in all three tests.
No. The 2025 notification states there are no negative marks in either prelims or mains for AAO (Generalist), and the mains handout says there is no penalty for wrong answers, though it advises against random guessing. The separate AAO (Specialist) prelims in 2025 did carry a ¼-mark penalty.
Two questions for 25 marks in 30 minutes, in English, typed on the computer straight after the objective tests. LIC’s clarification says any type of question from emails, reports, situation analysis and précis writing could be asked; the sample letter and essay in the handout are only illustrative. It is qualifying (10 marks, or 9 for SC/ST/PwBD), is evaluated only if you clear the objective part, and does not count for rank.
Not in the 2025 notification. Prelims has only Reasoning Ability, Quantitative Aptitude and English Language; insurance and financial market awareness is tested in mains only.
In the exam, Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, GK & Current Affairs, Data Analysis & Interpretation and Insurance & Financial Market Awareness are offered in English and Hindi; the English Language tests are in English only. Inside JobSafal you can study and practise in both languages.
LIC has not announced the next (33rd batch) notification, so the 2025 structure is the latest official one. The four mains objective tests were the same in the 2023 (31st batch) and 2025 notifications, but the descriptive paper changed — letter writing and essay in 2023, emails, reports, situation analysis and précis in 2025. LIC reserves the right to modify the exam structure, so check the new notification on licindia.in › Careers when it is published.
