Syllabus & pattern at a glance
Both written tests work the same way. General Aptitude tests (Reasoning and English, plus Quantitative Aptitude for BMO) only have to be cleared. A Professional Knowledge paper in your own field then decides your written-test merit. The written test and the interview are weighted 70:30 in the final merit list.
Other 2026-27 regular SO posts — Trade Finance Officer–IBG (CRPD/SCO/2026-27/15) and the two HR manager posts (CRPD/SCO/2026-27/12) — are filled by shortlisting and interview only, so they have no written-test syllabus.
Assistant / Deputy Manager (Law) — test pattern
Both Law posts take the same online test. Three objective tests (110 questions in 90 minutes) are followed straight away by a 45-minute descriptive test. There is no negative marking. You must qualify in the objective and descriptive tests separately.
| Test | Questions | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Test of Reasoning (qualifying) | 25 | 25 | 45 min shared |
| English Language (qualifying) | 35 | 35 | 45 min shared |
| Professional Knowledge | 50 | 50 | 45 min |
| Descriptive Test (Professional Knowledge) | 5 of 8 | 50 | 45 min |
| Total | 110 objective + 5 descriptive | 160 | 2 h 15 min |
The advertisement describes the written test as Objective 50 + Descriptive 50. That is the 50-mark Professional Knowledge paper plus the 50-mark descriptive test. The 60 marks of Reasoning and English are qualifying and are not counted for merit. Every objective question has five options.
Law syllabus, test by test
For Professional Knowledge, SBI lists the fundamental concepts, issues and current developments in six areas of law. For Reasoning and English it gives only sample questions. The chips under those two tests show the question types in SBI’s own samples.
SBI says its syllabus is indicative and not exhaustive, and that the online exam may contain questions beyond it. The Reasoning and English chips come from the sample questions in the Law “Acquaint Yourself” booklet, which SBI calls illustrative — the real test can include other types.
Bank Medical Officer — test pattern
One objective test: 100 questions for 150 marks in 90 minutes, with no descriptive paper. The three aptitude tests share a 45-minute timer and are only qualifying. Professional Knowledge carries 100 marks and has its own 45 minutes. Wrong answers are penalised.
| Test | Questions | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Test of Reasoning (qualifying) | 15 | 15 | 45 min shared |
| Quantitative Aptitude (qualifying) | 15 | 15 | 45 min shared |
| English Language (qualifying) | 20 | 20 | 45 min shared |
| Professional Knowledge | 50 | 100 | 45 min |
| Total | 100 | 150 | 90 min |
Bank Medical Officer syllabus, area by area
For BMO, SBI prints a detailed clinical syllabus in 18 areas, lettered A to R in the advertisement. Every topic below is from that list. The aptitude tests follow at the end.
SBI’s BMO booklet describes Quantitative Aptitude as computation, quantitative reasoning and the interpretation of tables and graphs. It describes English as grammar, vocabulary, sentence completion, synonyms, antonyms and passage comprehension. As with Law, SBI calls the clinical syllabus indicative and not exhaustive.
How marks are split across tests
SBI doesn’t publish topic-wise weightage for either post. It does fix the marks for each test, and only Professional Knowledge — plus the descriptive test for Law — counts towards merit.

Prep for SBI SO with your own daily plan
Daily targets for Reasoning, English & Quant — the qualifying tests in the SBI SO written exam.
Turn the aptitude tests into a daily plan
Professional Knowledge is your own field, and JobSafal doesn’t teach law or medicine. What it can help with is the qualifying aptitude tests. Fall short in any of them and your Professional Knowledge marks never get counted. Your SBI SO plan breaks Reasoning, English and Quant into short daily targets. JobSafal has no SBI SO mock tests or PYQ sets yet.
Aptitude as daily targets
Reasoning, English and Quant topics split into small daily targets, so you always know what to study next.
Reasoning & English
The two qualifying tests that both the Law and the Medical Officer papers include.
Quant for BMO
Computation and table-and-graph topics for the 15-question Quantitative Aptitude test in the BMO paper.
English & Hindi
Study in either language. In the exam, the English Language test is in English only.
