SBI SO salary at a glance
Each advertisement prints the basic pay scale for its grade. On top of basic pay, officers are eligible for DA, HRA, CCA, Provident Fund, the contributory pension scheme (NPS), Leave Fare Concession, medical facility and other perquisites under SBI’s rules in force from time to time. Bank Medical Officers also get a non-practising allowance.
The JMGS-I and MMGS-II basic pay scales
The advertisements write the scales as 48480-2000/7-62480-2340/2-67160-2680/7-85920 (JMGS-I) and 64820-2340/1-67160-2680/10-93960 (MMGS-II). Read each in parts: the starting basic, the size of each increment, and how many increments come at that size.
| Grade · part | Increment × number | Basic pay |
|---|---|---|
| JMGS-I · part 1 | ₹2,000 × 7 | ₹48,480 → ₹62,480 |
| JMGS-I · part 2 | ₹2,340 × 2 | ₹62,480 → ₹67,160 |
| JMGS-I · part 3 | ₹2,680 × 7 | ₹67,160 → ₹85,920 |
| MMGS-II · part 1 | ₹2,340 × 1 | ₹64,820 → ₹67,160 |
| MMGS-II · part 2 | ₹2,680 × 10 | ₹67,160 → ₹93,960 |

How the basic pay grows
These bars show the starting and top basic pay of each scale. They show basic pay only, without DA, HRA or any other allowance.
Neither advertisement gives an in-hand, monthly take-home or CTC figure. For Bank Medical Officers, the 20% non-practising allowance is calculated on basic pay, and a PG diploma or MS/MD puts you one or two increments higher in the scale at joining.
Joining terms
Both advertisements set out what happens once you’re selected. These terms apply to the Law and BMO posts unless marked otherwise.
Probation
Selected candidates are on probation as per SBI’s recruitment policy for the post, and are governed by SBI’s service rules.
Checks before the offer
Appointment depends on verification of eligibility and certificates, satisfactory references, medical fitness, antecedent checks and a clean credit (CIBIL) record.
Relieving papers
If you work in a government office, PSU, bank or financial institution, bring a no-objection certificate to the interview and a discharge or relieving certificate when you join.
BMO: no private practice
Bank Medical Officers may not practise privately. They may be allowed one local and one national medical conference, approved case by case.
What SBI’s law and medical officers do
Each advertisement lists illustrative key responsibilities (KRAs). SBI says the actual KRAs are assigned on joining and other duties may be added. Tap one to expand.
Allowances & terms
The advertisements name the benefits that come on top of basic pay, but not their rates, except the BMO non-practising allowance. They follow SBI’s rules in force from time to time:
Career growth
Assistant Manager (Law) starts in the junior management grade, while Deputy Manager (Law) and Bank Medical Officer start a grade higher, in middle management. The advertisements don’t describe promotion paths or timelines; once you join, you’re governed by SBI’s service rules, so check the details with SBI.
