RRB Group D eligibility at a glance
These are the conditions in CEN 09/2025. Applications closed on 9 March 2026, and the RRBs check every claim against original certificates at document verification.
Nationality
Para 4.0 of the notification says a candidate must be one of the following:
A candidate who needs a certificate of eligibility can be admitted to the exam provisionally, but must submit the certificate at document verification or the candidature is rejected.
Age limit
All posts in CEN 09/2025 have the same age band of 18 to 33 years, counted as on 01.01.2026. The date-of-birth limits below already include the community relaxation for OBC-NCL and SC/ST.
| Community | Born not earlier than | Born not later than |
|---|---|---|
| UR & EWS | 02.01.1993 | 01.01.2008 |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 02.01.1990 | 01.01.2008 |
| SC / ST | 02.01.1988 | 01.01.2008 |
The date of birth in your application must match your Matriculation/SSLC or equivalent certificate. No later change is allowed, and any difference leads to disqualification.
Age relaxation
The upper age limit is relaxed (or a maximum age is set) for these categories, subject to the required certificates:
| Category | Relaxation / maximum age |
|---|---|
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 3 years |
| SC / ST | 5 years |
| Ex-servicemen with at least 6 months’ service after attestation | After deducting service from age: UR/EWS 3 years · OBC-NCL 6 years · SC/ST 8 years |
| Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) | UR/EWS 10 years · OBC-NCL 13 years · SC/ST 15 years |
| Serving Group ‘C’ and erstwhile Group ‘D’ Railway staff and substitutes with at least 3 years’ service | Up to age 40 (UR/EWS) · 43 (OBC-NCL) · 45 (SC/ST) |
| Staff of quasi-administrative Railway offices (canteens, co-operative societies, institutes) | Length of service or 5 years, whichever is less |
| Women who are widowed, divorced or judicially separated and not remarried | Up to age 35 (UR) · 38 (OBC-NCL) · 40 (SC/ST) |
| Course Completed Act Apprentices trained in Railway establishments (for posts needing ITI/CCAA) | Length of apprenticeship: maximum 3 years (UR/EWS) · 6 (OBC-NCL) · 8 (SC/ST), including community relaxation |
| Candidates who began Act Apprenticeship before age 25 | Up to age 35 (UR/EWS) · 38 (OBC-NCL) · 40 (SC/ST) |
If you qualify on more than one ground, you get the largest single relaxation; they are not added together. SC, ST and OBC-NCL candidates applying against UR vacancies get no age relaxation, and PwBD candidates applying against UR vacancies get only the PwBD (UR) relaxation.
Educational qualification
Annexure-A of the notification sets the qualification for the posts: 10th pass or ITI or equivalent or a National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) granted by NCVT, from a recognised Board or Institute.
Application fee & the one-RRB rule
The fee was paid online only. Refunds go only to candidates who appear in the CBT, after deducting bank charges, to the bank account seeded with their Aadhaar number.
General fee · ₹500
₹400 refunded on appearing in the CBT, less bank charges.
Concessional fee · ₹250
SC, ST, ex-servicemen, PwBD, female, transgender, minorities and Economically Backward Class (EBC). Refunded on appearing in the CBT, less bank charges.
One RRB only
Multiple applications to the same or different RRBs mean all are rejected, with debarment. You gave post and zone preferences within your chosen RRB.
EBC is fee-only
EBC means annual family income below ₹50,000. It is a fee concession only, not a reservation category, and is separate from OBC and EWS.
Medical standards & PET
Every post has a medical standard (Annexure-A). Candidates called for document verification must pass the Railway medical examination for the posts they opted for. Failing the standard means no empanelment for that post and no alternative appointment.

The notification sets no height or chest measurement for these posts. Transgender candidates get the female PET standards; PwBD candidates, ex-servicemen and Course Completed Act Apprentices are exempt from the PET. Under para 3.0, candidates who have had LASIK or other surgery to correct refractive error are not eligible for A-2 and A-3 posts, while B-1 and C-1 posts allow it on conditions. A candidate who fails the initial medical gets one final medical appeal, on payment of charges. The full standards are in Chapter 5 of the Indian Railway Medical Manual, Vol. I.
