Appendix II also suggests reading for Papers I and III, which RBI calls indicative rather than prescribed. It includes RBI’s Annual Report, Bulletins and Report on Trend and Progress of Banking, the Economic Survey, the World Development Report, financial newspapers and standard economics and management textbooks. For Paper II, RBI says the paper tests writing skills, including expression and understanding of the topic. The Phase II handout adds that it may include essay, précis and comprehension. How marks are split across papers

RBI does not publish topic-wise weightage. It does fix the marks for each test and paper. Phase I (200 marks) only shortlists. Phase II (300 marks) and the interview (75 marks) decide the merit list.

FAQ

Syllabus questions, answered

Partly. For Phase II, Appendix II of the advertisement lists the topics for Paper I (Economic & Social Issues) and Paper III (General Finance & Management) and describes Paper II (English Writing Skills). For Phase I it names only the four tests: General Awareness, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning. The Phase I topic lists on this page are commonly tested areas.
Four. General Awareness has 80 questions, English Language 30, Quantitative Aptitude 30 and Reasoning 60, for 200 marks in 120 minutes. Each test is timed separately: 25 minutes each for the first three and 45 minutes for Reasoning. You need the minimum marks in each test as well as the aggregate cut-off.
For every wrong answer to an objective question, one-fourth of the marks assigned to that question is deducted. This applies to Phase I and to the objective parts of Phase II Papers I and III, where questions carry 1 or 2 marks. A question left blank carries no penalty.
In Papers I and III, six descriptive questions are shown and you answer four. Two carry 15 marks each, with answers up to 600 words, and two carry 10 marks each, up to 400 words. If you answer more than four, only the first four are evaluated. Paper II (English) has 3 questions for 100 marks in 90 minutes and may include essay, précis and comprehension. All answers are typed on the keyboard. Hindi answers can be typed in the Inscript or Remington (GAIL) layout.
Yes. All papers in both phases are bilingual (Hindi and English), except the English Language test in Phase I and Paper II in Phase II. Inside JobSafal you can study and practise in both languages.
No. Phase I only shortlists candidates for Phase II. For the General cadre, the merit list adds Phase II marks (Papers I, II and III, out of 300) and interview marks (out of 75), plus grace marks where the rules allow.
