RBI Grade B salary at a glance
Para 19 of the advertisement sets the pay: a starting basic of ₹78,450 a month in the pay scale for Officers in Grade ‘B’. On top of basic pay come Special, Grade, Dearness, Local Compensatory, Special Grade and Learning allowances and House Rent Allowance, under the rules in force from time to time.
The Grade B basic pay scale
The advertisement writes the scale as 78450-4050(9)-114900-EB-4050(2)-123000-4650(4)-141600 (16 years). Read it in parts: the starting basic, the size of each increment, and how many increments come at that size.
| Part of the scale | Increment × number | Basic pay |
|---|---|---|
| Part 1 | ₹4,050 × 9 | ₹78,450 → ₹1,14,900 |
| Part 2 (after the efficiency bar) | ₹4,050 × 2 | ₹1,14,900 → ₹1,23,000 |
| Part 3 | ₹4,650 × 4 | ₹1,23,000 → ₹1,41,600 |
Source: para 19 (Pay Scale) of advertisement RBISB/DA/01/2026-27. “EB” marks an efficiency bar at ₹1,14,900. The 15 increments take the basic from ₹78,450 to ₹1,41,600 over 16 stages. For candidates with very high academic or professional qualifications or experience of value to the Bank, RBI may, at its discretion, grant up to four advance increments; the request is considered only at the interview stage, through the biodata form.
How the basic pay grows
These are the basic pay figures at the start of the scale, at each point where the scale changes, and at the top. They show basic pay only.
RBI doesn’t publish an in-hand or take-home figure. The only overall figure it gives is the initial monthly gross emoluments without HRA, about ₹1,54,936 “at present”, which moves as allowances such as Dearness Allowance are revised. For comparison, the 2025 advertisement (RBISB/DA/03/2025-26) gave about ₹1,50,374 on the same basic pay scale.
Joining, probation & verification
The advertisement sets out what happens around selection and joining. These terms apply to every Grade B (DR) officer in this recruitment.
Eligibility checked at the interview
The Board admits applicants to the exams on the information in their online form and verifies eligibility at the interview stage. False or incorrect information means cancellation, even after joining (para 11).
Two-year probation
Initial appointment is on probation for two years. At the Bank’s discretion, it can be extended up to a maximum of four years (para 23).
Up to four advance increments
Candidates with high qualifications or special experience can ask for higher emoluments in the biodata form; the Board considers this only at the interview stage (para 19).
Discharge from current employer
If you work in government, a PSU, a bank or a similar body, you must have informed your employer when applying and bring a proper discharge certificate, without any lien, at joining (para 28).
What an RBI Grade B officer does
RBI describes itself as a full-service central bank handling a variety of functions, and says its Grade B officers handle a wide range of roles depending on their postings. The advertisement doesn’t list duties; it points to RBI’s own roles page. These are the points the documents do make — tap one to expand.
Allowances & perquisites
RBI’s advertisement names these allowances on top of basic pay. Apart from HRA, it doesn’t give their rates; they follow the rules in force from time to time:
Perquisites in para 21, as per eligibility: Bank accommodation subject to availability, reimbursement of vehicle maintenance for official use, Knowledge Updation Allowance, telephone charges, a furnishing allowance, dispensary facility and reimbursement of OPD and hospital expenses, a festival advance without interest, and loans at concessional interest for housing, vehicles, education, consumer articles and computers.
Career growth
Para 23 says there are “reasonable prospects for promotion to higher grades”. The advertisement doesn’t name the higher grades or give promotion timelines, so we don’t list a ladder here; check the details with RBI after you join.
