RBI Grade B eligibility at a glance
For the General cadre, you must meet the nationality rule, be 21–30 years old on 1 April 2026 and hold a degree with the required marks by that date. You must also not have used up your Phase I attempts. Admission to every stage is provisional. RBI decides eligibility only at the interview stage, when it checks your documents.
Nationality and number of attempts
RBI’s nationality rule goes beyond Indian citizens. A candidate must be one of the following:
| Nationality | Condition |
|---|---|
| Citizen of India | — |
| Subject of Nepal or Bhutan | Government of India eligibility certificate |
| Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 to settle permanently | Government of India eligibility certificate |
| Person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia or Vietnam to settle permanently in India | Government of India eligibility certificate |
Age limit
There is one age band for the post, counted as on 01.04.2026:
| Rule | Detail |
|---|---|
| Minimum age | 21 years |
| Maximum age | 30 years (General & EWS) |
| Date of birth | Not earlier than 02.04.1996 and not later than 01.04.2005 |
1 April 2026 is also the reference date for the educational qualification. Reserved categories get the upper-age relaxations below. You did not upload certificates with the application: age, qualification and category documents are verified at the interview.
Age relaxation
The upper age limit is relaxed for these candidates. Relaxations generally cannot be added together. The exception is an SC, ST or OBC candidate who is also an ex-serviceman or a PwBD candidate, who gets both relaxations.
| Category | Age relaxation |
|---|---|
| OBC (non-creamy layer), if posts are reserved | 3 years |
| SC / ST, if posts are reserved | 5 years |
| PwBD (General / EWS) | 10 years |
| PwBD (OBC) | 13 years |
| PwBD (SC / ST) | 15 years |
| Ex-servicemen, including commissioned officers and Emergency / Short Service Commissioned Officers, with at least 5 years’ military service as on 01.04.2026 and released as the advertisement specifies (or such officers whose assignment has been extended, with a Ministry of Defence certificate) | 5 years |
| Ex-employees of banking institutions terminated for economy or liquidation, and retrenched Government staff with at least one year’s service registered with an Employment Exchange | 5 years |
| M.Phil / Ph.D holders | Upper limit 32 / 34 years |
| Officer experience in scheduled commercial banks, public-sector insurance companies or AIFIs (EXIM Bank, NABARD, NHB, SIDBI, NaBFID), or prior RBI experience | Completed years, up to 3 (upper limit not above 33) |
The probation period does not count as experience. Ex-servicemen and commissioned officers released at their own request do not get the ex-servicemen relaxation. OBC candidates in the creamy layer must apply as General and get no OBC relaxation. OBC (NCL) certificates had to be based on income for FY 2023-24 to 2025-26 and issued between 01.04.2026 and the closing date. Eligible RBI staff have separate age rules under RBI’s circulars.
Educational qualification
For the General cadre, you need one of the two qualifications below as on 01.04.2026, with marks counted on the aggregate of all semesters or years. The rules that come with it:
If your university has its own rule for converting CGPA to a percentage, RBI accepts it. The percentage is the aggregate over the whole course, not just the final year. RBI says it “encourages candidates with no prior experience to apply” for the General cadre. The other two streams in the same advertisement need different qualifications. DEPR needs an MA/MSc in Economics or Finance (or a listed allied subject) with 55%, or 50% for SC/ST/PwBD. DSIM needs a Master’s with 55% in Statistics, Mathematics or a related area, or in Data Science, AI, ML or Big Data Analytics. A four-year Bachelor’s with 60% in these areas also qualifies for DSIM, and SC/ST/PwBD candidates need 50%.
Application fee and category rules
The fee was paid online between 29.04.2026 and 20.05.2026 (6 PM). Your category decides your fee, age relaxation, attempt limit and reservation. Once you apply, it cannot be changed.
Application fee
₹850 + 18% GST for GEN / OBC / EWS (application fee including intimation charges); ₹100 + 18% GST intimation charges for SC / ST / PwBD; nil for eligible RBI staff. Bank charges are extra. The fee is non-refundable and cannot be carried over to another exam.
OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)
An OBC (NCL) certificate in the prescribed format, issued on or after 01.04.2026 and no later than 20.05.2026. OBC status is decided by the State your father originally belongs to.
EWS
An Income & Asset Certificate for FY 2025-26, valid for 2026-27, in the Government of India format, held by 20.05.2026. RBI notes that EWS vacancies are tentative.
Category is final
Requests to switch between General and a reserved category after applying are not accepted, and the same applies to EWS and PwBD. Candidates without the certificate by the closing date had to apply as General.
SC, ST, OBC, EWS and PwBD candidates can apply even where no post is reserved for their category, but then get no concessions; SC/ST/PwBD candidates still pay only intimation charges. Candidates working in Government, PSUs, banks or financial institutions had to inform their employer in writing before applying. They will need a discharge certificate, without lien, when they join. For the General cadre, RBI also arranges pre-exam online training at no cost for SC, ST, OBC and PwBD candidates.
Persons with benchmark disabilities
The advertisement sets no physical standards. PwBD reservation is horizontal, within the overall vacancies. In 2026 the General cadre reserves one post each for categories C and D, and DSIM one for category A. RBI has identified Grade B (General, DEPR and DSIM) as suitable for:
| Category | Code | Includes |
|---|---|---|
| Blindness & low vision | a | Blind (B) and low vision (LV) |
| Deaf & hard of hearing | b | Hard of hearing (HH) |
| Locomotor disability | c | One or both arms / legs affected, cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims, muscular dystrophy, spinal deformity / spinal injury |
| Autism & mental illness | d | Autism spectrum disorder (mild) and mental illness |
| Multiple disabilities | e | Multiple disabilities from among (a) to (d) |
The functional requirements are sitting, walking, manipulation with fingers, reading & writing, seeing and communication. You need a permanent disability certificate from a competent authority under the RPwD Act, 2016, issued before the closing date. A temporary disability that is “likely to improve” does not qualify for reservation. Candidates eligible for a scribe get 20 minutes of compensatory time per hour of the exam; the full scribe rules are in para 9 of the advertisement.
