IBPS RRB Clerk eligibility at a glance
The baseline: be an Indian citizen (or belong to another eligible category), be between 18 and 28 years old on 1 September 2026, hold a bachelor’s degree with the result declared by 21 September 2026, and be proficient in the local language of the state you apply for. IBPS stresses these are minimum criteria — the Regional Rural Bank itself is the final authority on recruitment.
Nationality
A candidate must be one of the following:
Everyone other than an Indian citizen needs a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.
Age limit
There is one age band for Office Assistants (Multipurpose), counted as on 01.09.2026:
| Rule | Detail |
|---|---|
| Minimum age | 18 years |
| Maximum age | 28 years (General & EWS) |
| Date of birth | Not earlier than 02.09.1998 and not later than 01.09.2008 (both dates inclusive) |
Reserved categories get the upper-age relaxations below. If you are provisionally allotted, you produce the certificates for any relaxation at document verification, on or before the day you join the allotted RRB.
Age relaxation
The upper age limit is relaxed for these categories. SC/ST/OBC (NCL) relaxation can be combined with only one of the other relaxations.
| Category | Age relaxation |
|---|---|
| SC / ST | 5 years |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 3 years |
| Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (RPwD Act, 2016) | 10 years |
| Ex-servicemen / disabled ex-servicemen (ESM / DESM) | Actual period of service in the defence forces + 3 years (8 years for disabled ex-servicemen belonging to SC/ST), up to a maximum age of 50 |
| Widows, divorced women and women legally separated from their husbands who have not remarried | Up to age 35 (General / EWS), 38 (OBC) or 40 (SC / ST) |
The ex-servicemen and widow / divorcee relaxations above apply only to Office Assistants. OBC candidates need a non-creamy layer certificate in the Government of India format, issued on or after 01.04.2026; creamy-layer OBC candidates apply as General. Serving armed forces personnel can apply as ex-servicemen if their specific period of engagement is completed on or before 20.09.2027.
Educational qualification & language
A bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised university, or its equivalent, plus proficiency in the local language. The rules that come with it:
Language rule: if you studied the state’s language in Class VIII or above at a Government-recognised board or school (or hold a certificate to that effect), you are treated as proficient. If not, you get six months from joining to acquire proficiency; the RRB’s board can extend this within its rules, but not beyond the probation period.
Application fee and category rules
The fee was paid online between 01.09.2026 and 27.09.2026 (extended from 21.09.2026). Your category decides your fee, age relaxation and reservation — and with the edit window closed on 08.10.2026, it can no longer be changed.
Application fee
₹175 for SC/ST/PwBD/ESM/DESM candidates; ₹850 for all others. Both include GST; bank transaction charges are paid by the candidate. Unlike the officer posts, ex-servicemen pay the lower fee for Office Assistant.
Office Assistant + one officer post
You may apply for Office Assistant and also for one officer post — Scale I, II or III — with a separate application and fee for each.
OBC (NCL) & EWS
OBC: non-creamy layer certificate in the Government of India format, issued on or after 01.04.2026. EWS: family gross annual income below ₹8 lakh, within the asset limits, with an Income & Asset Certificate valid for 2026-27 (for FY 2025-26).
Category is final
In the 07–08.10.2026 edit window (₹200), General/EWS/OBC could move to any category, but SC/ST/PwBD only within SC/ST/PwBD. No change is allowed now; results use the category in your final application.
Persons with benchmark disabilities
The notification sets no physical standards for this post. Persons with benchmark disabilities — at least 40% of a specified disability — are eligible for reservation under section 34 of the RPwD Act, 2016. For Office Assistants, the suitable categories are:
| Category | Code | Includes |
|---|---|---|
| Visual impairment | VI | Blindness and low vision |
| Hearing impairment | HI | Deaf and hard of hearing |
| Locomotor disability | OC / LD | One or both arms, one or both legs, cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims, muscular dystrophy, spinal deformity / injury without neurological or limb dysfunction |
| Intellectual disability & others | ID | Autism spectrum disorder (mild), specific learning disability, mental illness, intellectual disability |
| Multiple disabilities | — | A combination of the categories above |
A disability certificate from a competent authority is required, and certificates or UDID cards may be verified. The Office Assistant vacancy table (updated 25.09.2026) earmarks PwBD posts within the total: HI 99, OC 85, VI 81, ID 90; it also earmarks 809 posts for ex-servicemen and 352 for disabled ex-servicemen and dependents of those killed in action. Rules on scribes and compensatory time are in section B.III of the official notification.
