GD recruits Constables (General Duty) for the Central Armed Police Forces and SSF, and Riflemen (General Duty) for Assam Rifles. The notification puts every one of these posts at Pay Level 3. The actual job

Job profiles by force

What the work broadly involves — tap a force to expand. The notification itself reminds candidates that they are applying for a combat force; exact duties depend on the force and unit you join.

The entry-level uniformed rank in a Central Armed Police Force. General duty means guard, patrol and security work as part of a unit, after basic training. It is a physically demanding role — which is why selection includes a race, physical measurements and a detailed medical exam.
The Central Industrial Security Force provides security to important industrial and public-sector establishments and infrastructure. As a GD Constable you would be part of the security set-up at the unit where you are deployed.
The Central Reserve Police Force supports internal security and law and order across the country. Duties can involve deployment in different states and in difficult areas.
These forces guard India’s land borders. Expect postings at border outposts, often in remote, high-altitude or difficult terrain, along with patrolling and guard duties.
Assam Rifles recruits Riflemen (GD), mainly serving in the North-East. The Secretariat Security Force is a small force responsible for security at government secretariat buildings; its few posts are filled on an all-India merit basis.
On CBE merit (including NCC bonus marks) cum the order of force preferences you gave in the online application. Filling all seven force preferences was mandatory, and you must also qualify the PET/PST and medical examination.

Allowances & deductions

Basic pay is only part of the salary. Central government employees also receive allowances and have deductions; the rates are set by government orders and change over time, and the notification does not list them — so confirm the current rates with your force.

Service terms in the notification

Selected candidates are liable to serve anywhere in India. Appointment depends on seats in the CAPFs’ training centres, so candidates may be appointed in phases as training space becomes available. Joining, seniority, training and other in-service matters follow the rules of the force you join, and SSC keeps no waiting list once the final result is out. Pay rises over time with annual increments and DA revisions under government rules.

FAQ

Salary questions, answered

All GD posts are at Pay Level 3, with basic pay of ₹21,700 – ₹69,100 as per the GD 2026 notification. Allowances such as Dearness Allowance are paid on top.
Not the pay level. The notification gives Level 3 for all posts — Constable (GD) in every CAPF and SSF, and Rifleman (GD) in Assam Rifles. Allowances can depend on where and how you are deployed, under your force’s rules.
It depends on the Dearness Allowance rate in force, your posting, the allowances that apply to you and your deductions, so we don’t quote a fixed figure. The Level 3 band above is the official number from the notification.
You rank all seven forces in the online application — filling every preference is mandatory. Forces are then allotted on CBE merit (with NCC bonus marks) cum preference, subject to qualifying PET/PST and the medical.
Anywhere in India — the notification says candidates recommended for appointment are liable to serve anywhere in the country. Vacancies are earmarked state-wise (SSF is all-India), but that decides selection, not where you serve.
Appointment depends on seats in the forces’ training centres, so selected candidates may be appointed in phases. Joining and training follow the rules of the force you are allotted.
