Prelims syllabus, test by test

SBI publishes only the test names. Its prelims “Acquaint Yourself” booklet describes English as grammar, vocabulary, sentence completion, synonyms, antonyms and passage comprehension; Numerical Ability as computation, quantitative reasoning and reading tables and graphs; and Reasoning as a test of how well you think, including your aptitude for working with computers. Tap a test for the topics commonly tested under it — use them as a study checklist, not an official list.

FAQ

Syllabus questions, answered

No. Para 4 of advertisement CRPD/CR/2026-27/17 lists only the tests with their questions, marks, timing and medium. The prelims “Acquaint Yourself” booklet adds short descriptions and sample questions that SBI calls illustrative, not exhaustive — for example, English is tested through grammar, vocabulary, sentence completion, synonyms, antonyms and comprehension. The topic lists on this page are commonly tested areas. Read the prelims booklet on SBI’s website.
Three — English Language (30 questions, 30 marks), Numerical Ability (35 questions, 35 marks) and Reasoning Ability (35 questions, 35 marks). Each is timed separately at 20 minutes, for 100 marks in one hour. SBI sets no minimum qualifying marks for any test or for the aggregate; about 10 times the vacancies in each category are shortlisted for mains on aggregate marks.
For every wrong answer, one-fourth of the marks assigned to that question is deducted. This applies to both prelims and mains. A question left blank carries no penalty.
Yes, in mains. Computer Aptitude is part of the “Reasoning Ability & Computer Aptitude” test — 50 questions for 60 marks in 45 minutes. There is no separate computer test and no descriptive (essay or letter) test.
The English tests are in English only. The other tests are offered in English, Hindi and, for many states, the language listed in the advertisement — for example English, Hindi and Tamil for Tamil Nadu, English, Hindi and Marathi for Maharashtra, or English, Hindi, Telugu and Urdu for Telangana. Inside JobSafal you can study and practise in English or Hindi.
No. Only the Main exam aggregate is used for the final merit list, drawn state-wise and category-wise. There is no interview in SBI Clerk; the local language test, where it applies, is qualifying.
