RRB NTPC eligibility at a glance
For CEN 06/2026 the basics are the same for all four posts: a degree already in hand, an age of 18–33 on 01.01.2027 (with relaxations), and the medical fitness standard of the post you opt for.
Nationality
Under para 4.0 of the CEN, a candidate must be one of the following:
Candidates in the last three categories need a certificate of eligibility from the Government of India. They may sit the exam provisionally, but must submit the certificate at document verification or their candidature is rejected.
Age limit & date of birth
All four posts share one age band — 18 to 33 years, counted as on 01.01.2027. In date-of-birth terms (both dates inclusive):
| Community | Relaxation in upper age | Date of birth between |
|---|---|---|
| UR / EWS | — | 02.01.1994 and 01.01.2009 |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 3 years | 02.01.1991 and 01.01.2009 |
| SC / ST | 5 years | 02.01.1989 and 01.01.2009 |
Your date of birth must match your 10th (Matriculation/SSLC) certificate. RRB will not accept any later request to change it, and a mismatch leads to disqualification.
Age relaxation
Para 5.2 of the CEN relaxes the upper age limit (or sets a maximum age) for these groups, subject to the required certificates.
| Category | Age relaxation |
|---|---|
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 3 years |
| SC / ST | 5 years |
| PwBD — UR / EWS | 10 years |
| PwBD — OBC-NCL | 13 years |
| PwBD — SC / ST | 15 years |
| Ex-Servicemen (at least 6 months’ service after attestation) | UR/EWS 3 years · OBC-NCL 6 years · SC/ST 8 years, after deducting length of service from age |
| Serving Railway Group C & erstwhile Group D staff, and Substitutes, with at least 3 years’ service | Up to 40 years of age (OBC-NCL 43, SC/ST 45) |
| Staff of quasi-administrative Railway offices (canteens, co-operative societies, institutes) | Length of service rendered or 5 years, whichever is less |
| Widowed, divorced or judicially separated women (not remarried) | Up to 35 years of age (OBC-NCL 38, SC/ST 40) |
Relaxations are not cumulative — you get the highest one you qualify for. SC, ST and OBC-NCL candidates applying against UR vacancies get no age relaxation; PwBD candidates applying against UR vacancies get only the PwBD (UR) relaxation.
Educational qualification
Annexure A of CEN 06/2026 sets one qualification for all four posts — a degree from a recognised university or its equivalent. The timing rules matter as much as the degree itself:
Post-wise eligibility, quick view
The four posts in CEN 06/2026 and what differs between them — pay level, medical standard and suitability for PwBD candidates (Annexure A). Vacancies are provisional.
Chief Commercial cum Ticket Supervisor
Level 6, initial pay ₹35,400 · medical B-2 · 127 vacancies · open to some PwBD sub-categories (hearing, locomotor, multiple disabilities), not visual.
Goods Train Manager
Level 5, initial pay ₹29,200 · medical A-2 · 2,750 vacancies · not suitable for PwBD candidates · no Lasik or other refractive surgery.
Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist
Level 5, initial pay ₹29,200 · medical C-2 · 300 vacancies · open to some PwBD sub-categories, including low vision.
Senior Clerk cum Typist
Level 5, initial pay ₹29,200 · medical C-2 · 371 vacancies · open to some PwBD sub-categories, including blind and low vision.
Medical standards
There is no physical efficiency test, but candidates called for document verification must pass the Railway medical examination for the post they opted for. Vision is the key requirement (para 3.0):
| Standard | Post | Vision requirement |
|---|---|---|
| A-2 | Goods Train Manager | Distant 6/9, 6/9 without glasses; near Sn 0.6, 0.6 without glasses; must pass colour, binocular, night and myopic vision tests |
| B-2 | Chief Commercial cum Ticket Supervisor | Distant 6/9, 6/12 with or without glasses (lens power up to 4D); near Sn 0.6, 0.6; field of vision (binocular) test |
| C-2 | Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist, Senior Clerk cum Typist | Distant 6/12, nil with or without glasses; near Sn 0.6 combined, with or without glasses |
All standards also require being physically fit in all respects. Candidates who have had Lasik or other surgery to correct refractive error are not eligible for A-2 posts; for B-2 and C-2 posts they are eligible subject to Railway Board conditions. Fail the medical and you are not empanelled for that post, with no alternative appointment — though one medical appeal may be allowed on payment.
