How scores are worked out and shared
The IBPS Clerk 2026 notification sets out these rules for calculating and sharing scores:
Merit list & bank allotment
Only Online Main exam marks count for the final merit list. Mains is out of 200, and IBPS converts the score to a mark out of 100 for provisional allotment. There is no interview. You must clear the minimum in each Mains test and the minimum total, and rank high enough among candidates for your state/UT to be allotted to a bank on a merit-cum-preference basis.
If two candidates have the same score, the older candidate is placed higher. A reserve list of about 30% of the vacancies in each category may be kept; if banks report more vacancies while it is valid (one year from provisional allotment), allotment may be run three to four more times for it. Being on the list does not guarantee allotment.
How IBPS Clerk cut-offs workWhat happens after the Prelims result
Clearing Prelims isn’t the finish line — these steps remain before you join a bank.
- Mains call letter & examDownload the Mains call letter from ibps.in (November 2026, tentative) for the Mains on 27 December 2026 (IBPS calendar). Bring your stamped Prelims call letter and stamped ID copy too.
- Provisional allotmentTentatively in March 2027, to one bank, state/UT-wise, on merit-cum-preference and the actual vacancies banks report. Once made, it cannot be changed.
- Local Language Proficiency TestA qualifying test of the local language you opted for, held after Mains/allotment but before joining. You are exempt if your Class 10 or higher mark-sheet or certificate shows you studied that language.
- Documents & joiningThe allotted bank verifies your documents and issues the offer of appointment. If you do not take up the offer, you lose your candidature.
